One Word Summary: Discernment
One Sentence Summary: Discernment invites me to examine what I want, what I believe, and recognize which desires truly nourish me.
The Seven of Hearts is desire under examination. Not every longing leads to life. I learn to feel the difference between illusion, delusion, and calling. What feeds me stays; what drains me dissolves.
In practice, discernment asks me to become curious about what I want before I decide to pursue it. And with all the things we’re curious about, accurate information is essential.
We’re in the MAGA era as I write this, and discernment is a hot-button topic because discernment means listening to what the evidence says about the topic – not what makes you feel powerful. Not what allows you to be cruel without consequence.
It demands examination and telling yourself the truth, which some people would rather die (and allow others to as well) rather than do it.
Desire is information, but it is not always instruction.
I can ask what lives underneath something Idesire deeply:
Do I want this thing, this person, this opportunity, or do I want the feeling I imagine it will give me?
It’s not shameful to want something because of how it makes you feel, nor do I have to chase every possibility that catches my heart.
But I want to be careful to see clearly. I can wait until the water clears. What is meant to nourish me can withstand examination.
I pay attention to what leaves me more whole, more alive, and more myself.
Discernment is not learning to want less.
It is learning to recognize which desires are worthy of my yes.
