Hunter Interpretation:

Another Hunt Team has entered the field.

They may be pursuing the same slime, monster, bounty, resource, territory, contract, or objective. They may have information the Hunters need. The Hunters may possess something the rival team wants.

Their presence creates opposition.

But opposition is not automatically hostility.

The inexperienced Hunter may make one of two mistakes.

They may treat the rival team as an enemy simply because they are competitors, turning an inconvenient encounter into an unnecessary conflict.

Or they may overcorrect, sharing information, tactics, resources, vulnerabilities, or access that the other team has not earned.

The experienced Hunter guards the gate.

They determine what cooperation serves the Hunt. They share what can safely be shared. They protect what belongs to their team. They watch how the rival Hunters behave when they encounter a boundary.

That response is information.

A trustworthy rival can hear no without becoming an enemy.

A dangerous rival treats every boundary as an obstacle to overcome.

Guard therefore asks the Hunter not merely:

“Can I trust them?”

But:

“What am I trusting them with?”

Trust does not have to be absolute.

A rival may be trusted to fight beside you without being trusted with your strategy. They may receive information about the immediate threat without receiving access to your records. They may enter the battlefield without entering your camp.

A boundary can have a gate.

The Hunter decides when it opens.

Stabby Gameplay Effect

Opposition Appears: Introduce a Rival Hunt Team pursuing an objective that overlaps with the Hunters’ own.

The rival team does not begin as automatically hostile.

Determine what they want and where their interests conflict with or complement the Hunters’ objective. They may compete for a target, interfere with a plan, request information, propose cooperation, claim territory, pursue the same reward, or attempt to reach the objective first.

Hunters must decide what to reveal, what to protect, and whether cooperation is worth the access it requires.

Violence is not required to overcome the complication.

Negotiation, boundaries, misdirection, competition, information control, temporary alliances, or simply reaching the objective first may resolve the encounter.

Success means protecting what matters without creating an enemy you did not need.
