About This Lesson

Welcome to the Sugarevil Art Lab!

Each lesson uses a playing card from the Sugarevil universe to develop practical drawing skills while creating artwork for the Elixr Slime Vault.

Today’s card is S-10: Conclusion.

We’ll practice drawing two slimes with simple rounded shapes but very different surfaces: one transparent and iridescent, the other opaque and textured.

By the end of this lesson, you’ll have two illustrations ready to develop for their individual Slime Vault entries.

Meet Today’s Slimes

Oil-Sheen Orb

  • Taxonomy: T3
  • Transparency: Transparent
  • Color: Complex
  • Shape: Simple
  • Drawing focus: Iridescence, reflections, and transparency

Rust Vein Slime

  • Taxonomy: O3
  • Transparency: Opaque
  • Color: Complex
  • Shape: Simple
  • Drawing focus: Surface texture, shading, and curved patterns

Your 90-Minute Drawing Session

Time Activity
10 minutes Warm-up: circles, ovals, and blobs
20 minutes Construct both slime forms
25 minutes Draw Oil-Sheen Orb
25 minutes Draw Rust Vein Slime
10 minutes Review and clean up

Today’s goal: Two recognizable slime illustrations. Fully rendered paintings are not required.

Part One: Warm-Up (10 Minutes)

Fill a page with circles, ovals, and irregular rounded shapes.

Start with loose, quick lines. Then practice drawing smooth contours without repeatedly tracing over the same line.

Choose two of your shapes to develop into slimes.

Drawing tip: A clear silhouette is more important than small details.

Part Two: Oil-Sheen Orb (25 Minutes)

Transparent · Complex Color · Simple Shape

Oil-Sheen Orb is a useful subject for practicing transparency and iridescent color.

Step-by-Step Drawing Instructions

  1. Draw the silhouette. Begin with a circle, slightly flattened along its lower edge.
  2. Establish the membrane. Add a faint curved line just inside part of the outer contour.
  3. Introduce color. Sketch three flowing ribbons of violet, teal, and magenta inside the body.
  4. Develop transparency. Strengthen selected edges while leaving much of the center pale or uncolored.
  5. Add reflections. Place two bright highlights along the upper surface.
  6. Ground the slime. Add a soft shadow underneath to show where it rests.

Artist’s Challenge

Can you make the slime appear transparent while still giving it several colors?

Drawing tip: Transparency is often communicated by what you leave visible or unpainted. Avoid filling every part of the body with equal amounts of color.

Part Three: Rust Vein Slime (25 Minutes)

Opaque · Complex Color · Simple Shape

Rust Vein Slime is an exercise in solid form and surface texture.

Step-by-Step Drawing Instructions

  1. Draw the silhouette. Begin with an irregular rounded blob, slightly wider at the bottom.
  2. Choose your lighting. Imagine light coming from the upper left.
  3. Establish volume. Shade the lower-right side with a darker rust-brown.
  4. Draw the main veins. Add three branching lines that curve around the slime’s body.
  5. Develop the texture. Add smaller branches and irregular rust-orange patches.
  6. Ground the slime. Finish with a cast shadow to make the creature appear heavy and solid.

Artist’s Challenge

Can you make the slime appear heavy and opaque without giving it a complicated silhouette?

Drawing tip: Surface markings should follow the curvature of the body. Imagine wrapping patterned fabric around a ball.

Part Four: Final Review (10 Minutes)

Before finishing, check your work:

  • Both slimes have recognizable silhouettes.
  • Oil-Sheen Orb looks transparent.
  • Rust Vein Slime looks opaque.
  • The color patterns follow the rounded forms.
  • Each drawing is ready for its individual catalog entry.

What We Learned

Today’s exercise demonstrates how two creatures with similar basic shapes can look entirely different through their materials.

Transparent slimes rely on reflections, selective edges, and visible internal forms.

Opaque slimes rely on surface shading, texture, and solid volume.

The lesson: A simple shape can communicate complex materials.

From Practice to the Elixr Slime Vault

The illustrations created during this lesson are intended for the individual catalog pages of Oil-Sheen Orb and Rust Vein Slime.

As the Sugarevil Art Lab progresses, each completed slime will receive its own artwork, drawing instructions, and visual construction guide.
