S-8 / MYTH / ENCOUNTER /SLIME SWARM/ THREAT ENGINE

Slime Swarm

Card Name: Slime Swarm

Realm: Science

Suit Meaning: Mind, struggle, calculation, shadow work, truth, and discernment.

Number Meaning: Power, cycles, karma, mastery, and the merciful use of capability.

One Word Summary: Liberation

One Sentence Summary: Liberation invites me to recognize when an old protection has become a limitation and give myself permission to step beyond it.

Through the Lens: Liberation asks the Hunter to recognize the difference between being surrounded and being trapped. An obstacle may be real without requiring total destruction. Look for the opening, use only the force necessary to create or reach it, and move.

Embodied Cue: Open your hands, palms upward. Let your shoulders relax.
“What protected me brought me here. I am allowed to go farther.”

Scripture: “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.” — Isaiah 30:21 (KJV)

Hunter Interpretation:

EIGHT OF SPADES

The slimes are everywhere.

One becomes three. Three become eight. Another drops from above. More block the road behind you. Every direction seems occupied, and every attempt to clear the field reveals another threat.

The Hunter begins to feel trapped.

That feeling is real.

The conclusion may not be.

A Slime Swarm tests whether the Hunter can distinguish “I am surrounded” from “there is no way out.”

The inexperienced Hunter may attempt to eliminate every slime before moving. They spend Spoons, Powers, equipment, Wounds, and precious time trying to create perfect safety.

But the Hunt may not require a perfectly cleared battlefield.

The experienced Hunter looks for the opening.

A gap between enemies. High ground. A narrow passage. A teammate’s shield. A distraction. A route the swarm cannot easily follow. A Power that moves bodies rather than destroys them. Sometimes the opening already exists. Sometimes the Hunters must create one.

Liberation does not mean pretending the walls aren’t real.

The swarm is real.

The danger is real.

The Hunters may genuinely have fewer choices than they had before.

But fewer choices is not the same thing as no choice.

Find the choice that remains.

Then move.

Stabby Gameplay Effect

Multiple Enemies: Introduce multiple slime enemies into the encounter. The number of active threats should make direct elimination significantly more expensive than confronting a single target.

Hunters may fight the swarm normally, but defeating every slime is not automatically required to overcome the complication.

Establish or reveal at least one possible route through, around, away from, or beyond the swarm.

Hunters can use movement, positioning, shields, control effects, distractions, terrain, teamwork, or Powers to create an opening.

Once an opening exists, the Hunters must decide whether continuing to fight actually serves the objective.

Success means becoming free to act, not necessarily destroying everything that restricted you.

Flavor Text

Surrounded isn’t the same as trapped.
