Today's Card Dates: 19 January, 12 March, 3 May, 24 June, 15 August, 6 October, 27 November

One Word Summary: Crossing

One Sentence Summary: Crossing invites me to move toward peace, one deliberate step at a time, without requiring myself to be completely healed before I begin.

The Six of Spades is the migration from chaos to clarity. I’ve always defined “chaos” as the truth coming into your life suddenly without warning, whether you want it to or not.

Truth you’re not ready for (or ready to make public) will leave you scrambling to collect and save the shattered pieces of your pride, ego, and reputation. But knowing what this chaos is, and why it feels crazy-making, gives you room to take one step and then another.

Then there’s a particular moment in healing when I realize I am no longer standing where the injury happened. Maybe I have not reached the other shore yet. Maybe some days I still look backward. Maybe what happened still hurts.

But I am moving.

That matters.

Crossing does not ask me to declare myself healed before I am. It does not require forgiveness, forgetting, reconciliation, or some perfect understanding of everything that happened. I do not have to transform pain into a beautiful lesson before I am permitted to continue living.

I only have to take the next step.

For a long time, healing can feel like studying the wound: understanding what happened, naming what was lost, deciding what deserves confrontation, and learning what I need to protect. Those things matter. But eventually healing asks something different of me.

Where do I want to go from here?

So I begin crossing.

I make art. I learn something new. I build things. I laugh. I keep going outside. I cook myself a meal instead of ordering out. I think about drawing a slime. I become interested in tomorrow. I become interested in the card for tomorrow. I discover parts of myself that have nothing to do with what hurt me.

And slowly, the distance grows.

The Six of Spades reminds me that moving forward is not a betrayal of the person who survived. It is one of the things she survived for.

I can carry her with me without carrying everything that happened to her.

Healing happens in motion. Some days the movement may be enormous. Other days it may be almost imperceptible. Both count.

I do not need to see the entire opposite shore.

I just need to keep crossing.

Meaning Through the Lens

Empathy: I honor the survivor in me, including the part that needed time before she was ready to move.

Truth: I acknowledge what hurt me without allowing the hurt to determine where I go next.

Kindness: I move at a pace that lets healing accompany me rather than forcing myself to leave pain behind on command.

Joy: I look toward the life becoming visible on the other side and let myself become curious about what might be waiting there.

Anti-Greed: I do not carry pain simply because I paid dearly for it. I take its wisdom and leave behind the weight.

Questions to Ask Yourself

Empathy: What part of me needs reassurance that moving forward does not erase what happened?

Truth: What am I ready to put behind me, even if I am not completely finished grieving or understanding it?

Kindness: What would one gentle, manageable step toward peace look like today?

Joy: What am I beginning to notice ahead of me now that I am spending less time looking backward?

Anti-Greed: What pain, argument, explanation, or unfinished business am I carrying that I no longer need for the journey ahead?

Embodiment Cue and/or Blessing:

Exhale slowly and take one deliberate step forward.

“I do not have to be finished healing to move toward peace.”
