One Word Summary: Guard
One Sentence Summary: Guard invites me to protect what is sacred without hiding it, choosing with care who and what receives access to the life I am building.
The Seven of Spades is discretion as power.
There was a time when guarding myself meant hiding.
I learned that some things were safer when they remained unseen. Ideas could be criticized before they had enough strength to survive criticism. Joy could attract judgment. Vulnerability could become information someone else used carelessly. Sometimes keeping something to myself was how I kept it alive.
I honor the person who learned that.
But Guard asks me to learn something new:
Protection does not require disappearance.
I can build walls with doors.
I can make art without giving everyone permission to critique it. I can share ideas without explaining every decision. I can keep portions of my spiritual life private. I can decide which conversations deserve my participation. I can welcome people into what I am building without handing them keys to every room.
Privacy is not secrecy. It is stewardship.
The things I love deserve environments in which they can grow. New ideas sometimes need incubation before exposure. Tender parts of myself deserve people capable of treating tenderness gently. Even mature work does not require unlimited access simply because I have chosen to make it visible.
Guard therefore asks me to become intentional about access.
Not everyone who can see the gate gets to enter it.
Not everyone who enters the city gets access to the house.
Not everyone welcomed into the house gets a key.
And none of those boundaries diminish my generosity.
They make generosity sustainable.
I am building a life that I want to inhabit. Part of building that life is deciding what belongs inside it, what may visit, and what remains outside.
I do not guard what is sacred because I am ashamed of it.
I guard it because I know its value.
Meaning Through the Lens
Empathy: I honor why I once hid. Protection helped me survive until I could choose my boundaries for myself.
Truth: I tell the truth to myself first. I do not need another person’s agreement before I trust what I know.
Kindness: I protect myself without imprisoning myself. A boundary can have a gate.
Joy: I treasure what is sacred by giving it room to grow beyond judgment, intrusion, and unnecessary scrutiny.
Anti-Greed: I do not owe everyone access to me. I share myself and my work with people who can hold what I offer with care.
Questions to Ask Yourself
Empathy: What did hiding once protect in me, and does that part of me need the same protection now?
Truth: What do I know to be true even if no one else validates it?
Kindness: What boundary would protect me without making my world smaller?
Joy: What part of my life, creativity, faith, or inner world deserves a protected place where it can simply flourish?
Anti-Greed: Who or what has earned access to what I am building, and where am I giving access simply because I feel obligated to?
Embodiment Cue and/or Blessing:
Place your hand over your heart, then open your other hand outward.
“My inner world belongs to me. I choose what I share, and I choose who enters.”
